There has been a recent addition to the Harvest Farms Suwanee Community Garden of a new chicken coop for Rosemary and Sweet Pea, the park’s resident hens. A local resident tended to the community garden’s hens while the coop was being constructed. No word yet as to when the Suwanee Community Garden hens will resume occupation of the coop.
Suwanee Community Garden is Georgia’s largest organic community garden. It is located at White Street Park near Historic Old Town Suwanee. There’s consistently a waiting list for the garden’s 76 plots. Harvest Farm is part of the City of Suwanee’s newest park, White Street Park, which also features a red barn that functions as an educational and community center, natural outdoor amphitheater, and looping trail.
Harvest Farm plots were constructed in spring 2010 using volunteer muscle from residents and nonprofits like Green In Gwinnett Area. The Suwanee community garden is managed by a creative, energetic, citizen-based board.
